Supercars return to Hidden Valley this weekend for the annual Indigenous Round. It was at this event in 2023 that Mark Winterbottom broke a six-year drought, claiming his first win since 2016 and delivering Team 18 their maiden Supercars victory.

Earlier this year, the model car celebrating that win was released by Authentic Collectables (ACD18C23N), and it has already overtaken Craig Lowndes’ 2008 “Red Dust” BF Falcon (18372) to become the most valuable Indigenous-liveried 1:18 currently on the market. Just 222 were produced - a fraction of the 1,500 made of the Lowndes car.

“Red Dust” (as it's colloquially known - not to be confused with the twin Jamie Whincup [18588] car released years later) was once a $500–$600 proposition, and it’s still commonly listed within that range today. However, the reality is the Diecast Detective Price - which reflects historical sales and current market conditions - now sits just under $400, slightly below where Winterbottom’s drought-breaker currently stands.

Diecast Detective flagged Frosty’s car as ‘One to Watch’ on release, based on his popularity, the significance of the win, the tight production run, and the unique distinction of being the only race-winning car of his career that isn’t a Ford. There was also a strong clue it was going to perform well in the secondary market being sold out through Authentic Collectables upon launch. On a larger run, this wouldn't be so clear cut but at less than 300 units, it spreads the retail stock very thin across other outlets.

Let's a look at the sale results of the two most valuable Indigenous-liveried Supercars. Obviously "Red Dust" was released 10 years prior to Frosty's car but the graph shows the downward trajectory its sale prices have been on for some time. It's unlikely Frosty's car will ever hit those same peaks, but it should remain a consistent performer at its current price level.

A Look Back

Frosty’s win in Darwin marked his 41st career Supercars victory with his previous win coming in Race 26 of the 2016 ITM Auckland SuperSprint, where he held off Scott Pye and that season’s eventual champion, Shane van Gisbergen.

Authentic Collectables released a 1:18 scale model (ACD18F16G) of that car in 2021 with an RRP of $250 - which, interestingly, is still its current Diecast Detective Price for a model in new condition.
