About Diecast Detective
Diecast Detective is Australia's home of diecast and scale model values. With over 10,000 models and 60,000+ sales (and growing), we're the go-to authority for diecast values in Australia.
Born out of the need for a way to better support collectors with their growing collections, the Diecast Detective story is many years in the making driven by passion for the hobby and the power of data to capture, monitor and predict sales values.
The term ‘diecast’ is used to cover any composition of models, whether they be metal, plastic, resin or composite. Diecast Detective’s focus is on collectable brands and scales which appeal to enthusiast collectors, so you won’t find Bburago or Maisto but you will find the likes of AUTOart, Biante, Drake and even Dinkum Classics! Our focus is on 1:18 and 1:12 scale cars and 1:50 scale trucks but we also track sales of 1:8 Icon, 1:24 and 1:43 Dinkum Classics.
Daily price updates by way of the Diecast Detective Price are driven by advanced mathematical analyses enabling you to track your collection’s value in real-time like the stock market. Sales records are updated daily ensuring your collection’s value is always up-to-date. No more spreadsheets and no more asking Facebook groups “What’s my model worth?”

Diecast Detective Methodology
- Sales are sourced from eBay, private sales, private auctions, and auction houses.
- Models are categorized as ‘New’ or ‘Used,’ with the default being ‘Used’ unless specified otherwise.
- 'Used' models have been displayed; 'New' models have not.
- Sale prices exclude postage, and eBay sales are not adjusted for fees.
- ‘Best Offer Accepted’ prices are adjusted based on industry averages.
- Auction house sales include GST and buyer’s premium.
- The Diecast Detective Daily Price, derived from statistical analysis of historical trends, is the most accurate data-driven determiner of market value available to collectors in the Australian market.
- Sales of damaged models (including those that have been repaired or are missing their aerial or other small part), those missing a COA or with a damaged/missing box are tracked but are not currently visible to maintain price integrity. Paint rash is not considered damage unless severe (e.g., bubbling on the 2001 Lowndes ‘blue rollcage’ and QLD 500 AUs); nor is crazing (fine cracks on white paint e.g. VX HRT bonnets and Biante HDT Toranas).
- Sales of signed models are recorded but are not currently visible because of the impact they have on pricing. Plans are in place to provide members with visibility of these particular sales.
- Models with tobacco decals fitted are included in results but are not individually identifiable since they have minimal impact on price.
