May 4, 1969: Today marks 55 years since Allan Moffat’s iconic red Coca-Cola Trans-Am Boss 302 Mustang first took to the track at Sandown’s Southern 60, winning all three races of the non-championship event.

This first appearance of the now-legendary car had some notable visual differences from the version fans are likely most familiar with. Instead of its later-famous #9, the car sported #38, ran without the signature bonnet scoop and rear wing, lacked the distinctive black Boss 302 stripes seen on street versions of the Mustang, and ran without the Minilite wheels the car sports today.

Moffat would make two ATCC starts in 1969 - both ending in retirement - before competing full time in 1970 in an updated version of the car.

In late 2018, ACME Trading in collaboration with Diecast Distributors Australia (DDA) released a 1:18 replica (A1801828) of this car in its debut, race-winning livery with COA signed by Allan Moffat. Production was originally plan for 1,250 units but in the end was capped at 1,000.

Less famous than its later #9 iteration, values of the debut car lag those of both the Welly-based Motorsport Memorabilia original release ((No Code) WE1424) and the later DDA release (A1801820) of the same car.
